VERMONT DEFEATED BY MINNESOTA STATE, 7-1

MANKATO, Minn. -- Minnesota State snapped a 1-1 second period tie with six unanswered goals to skate past Vermont, 7-1, in women's college hockey Sunday afternoon at All Seasons Arena. The game was the final non-conference game of the season for the Catamounts.

MSU's Amanda Stohr opened the scoring in the first period before Stephanie Tewksbury (Marshfield, Mass.) tied the game with a power play goal eight minutes into the second stanza. The goal was Tewksbury’s first of the season and was assisted by Ashley Keane (Sherborn, Mass.) and Jackie Thode (Aurora, Colo.). Minnesota State would regain the lead five minutes later on a goal by Maggie Fisher and Ashley Young would convert on the power play late in the period to make it 3-1.

The WCHA Mavericks (9-11-2), who outshot UVM, 44-23, for the contest, closed out their weekend sweep with four goals in the final period. Fisher was the only player for MSU with two goals while Lindsay Macy had a goal and three assists and Kristina Bunker added four assists.

Sophomore goalie Ashley Walenty (Lake Placid, N.Y.) made her second start of the season for the Catamounts (2-14-2) and stopped 37 shots. Britni Kehler made 21 saves for MSU.

UVM returns home to host Hockey East-leading Connecticut at Gutterson Fieldhouse on Thursday at 4:00pm and Providence Saturday at 2:00pm. Saturday’s game with the Friars is Family Fun Day at Gutterson Fieldhouse as children ages 12 and under will be admitted free with a paying adult. Also, following the game all fans are welcome to ‘Skate With The Cats’.
