MAINE SHUTS OUT VERMONT, 3-0

ORONO, Maine--University of Maine women's ice hockey goalie Genevieve Turgeon (Lac Beauport, Quebec) recorded her first shutout of the season as the Black Bears defeated Vermont 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Alfond Arena in Orono, Maine. The Black Bears improve to 7-12-2 on the season and 2-7-2 in Hockey East play. Vermont falls to 3-18-2 overall and 1-10-1 in conference play.

Vanessa Vani (St. Catherines, Ontario) scored her 10th goal of the season on the power play 9:00 into the first period. It was the second game-winning goal of the season for Vani. Brigitte Laflamme (St.-Augustin, Quebec) and Elyce Thomas (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) each assisted on the goal by Vani.

Sonia Corriveau (Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec) scored her team-leading 11th goal of the season 4:29 into the second period, also on the power play. Thomas and Laflamme each tallied their second assist of the game on the goal.

Taryn Peacock (Calgary, Alberta) scored an unassisted tally with just 2:11 remaining in the game to give the Black Bears the 3-0 win.

Turgeon made 28 saves in goal for the Black Bears. She improves to 4-8-1 on the season. Jenilee Roy made 25 saves in goal for the Catamounts.

The two teams each had 28 shots in the game. Maine finished 2-for-6 on the power play, while Vermont was 0-for-4.

The Black Bears return to action on Sunday, January 21 when they travel to Providence for a 4 p.m. game with the Friars.
