CONNECTICUT FALLS TO YALE IN NUTMEG CLASSIC, 3-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (December 29, 2006) – The University of Connecticut women’s ice hockey team was defeated 3-0 by Yale on Friday afternoon at the Nutmeg Classic in New Haven, Conn.

The Bulldogs (6-7-0) got on the board in the first period at the 14:45 mark with a goal by Sheila Zingler while being assisted by Jenna Spring. Just four minutes later, Yale scored again on a goal from Berit Johnson off a pass from Mandi Schwartz.

The Huskies (11-5-1) and Bulldogs battled throughout the second period but neither team could convert as UConn took nine shots while Yale took 14.

Yale scored the final goal of the game just thirty seconds into the third period with Cheryi Howser posting the unassisted goal.

Junior Britney Chandler (Pickering, Ont.) and Dominique Thibault (L’Original, Ont.) led the way with five shots apiece. Sophomore Brittany Wilson (Nepean, Ont.) recorded 41 saves on the day.

UConn will wrap up play at the Nutmeg Classic tomorrow afternoon against Quinnipiac at 4 p.m.
