CONNECTICUT BLANKED BY ST. LAWRENCE, 3-0

STORRS, Conn. (October 15, 2006) - The University of Connecticut women's ice hockey team fell to No.4 St. Lawrence 3-0 on Sunday, October 15, in Storrs, Conn.

The Huskies (3-1-0) and the Saints (4-0-0) battled throughout the first period but neither team could convert on shots and ended with a scoreless 0-0 tie. St. Lawrence outshot UConn nine to six.

St. Lawrence came out in the second period more aggressive with Chelsea Grills scoring on a power play off a pass from Annie Guay at 12:11. Not more than two minutes later did the Saints strike again on another power play, with the goal being credited to Guay with assists from Abbie Bullard and Carson Duggan. The Huskies never backed down as they tied the Saints in shots for the second period at eight to eight.

The third period saw St. Lawrence scoring the final goal at 18:00 on an open goal. Crystal Connors earned the point and was unassisted.

The Saints outshot the Huskies 27-23. Sophomore Nicole Tritter (Toronto, Ont.) led the team with four shots while junior Jaclyn Hawkins (Manotick, Ont.), sophomore Kristen Russell (Dauphin, Man.) and freshman Michelle Binning (Oshawa, Ont.) each had three shots on the day.

The Huskies are back on the ice Saturday, Oct. 21 when they host Maine at 1 p.m.
