CONNECTICUT EDGED BY QUINNIPIAC, 2-1

NORTHFORD, Conn. (December 30, 2006) - The University of Connecticut women's ice hockey team dropped a 2-1 contest to Quinnipiac on Saturday afternoon in Northford, Conn., at the Nutmeg Classic.

The Bobcats (6-12-0) were the first to get on the board as Kallie Flor scored off a pass from Trudy Reyns in the second period in the 11th minute.

The Huskies (11-6-1) were quick to return the favor as freshman Amy Hollstein (Pembroke, Mass.) struck less than a minute later with junior Jaclyn Hawkins (Manotick, Ont.) and Alicia Ramolla (Barrie, Ont.) gathering the assists.

With the score still tied in the third period, Quinnipiac's Ashley Jaffray would net the game-winning goal in the ninth minute as she was assisted by Kristin Alcorn.

UConn only took 16 shots on the day as Hollstein had five of them.

Freshman Jennie Bellonio (Guilford, Conn.) made her first career start in net and finished with 29 saves.

The Huskies are back on the ice Thursday, January 4, when they travel to face Vermont at 4 p.m.
