CONNECTICUT FALLS AT MERCYHURST, 5-0

ERIE, Pa. – A day after skaking to a 3-3 tie against No. 1 Mercyhurst, the University of Connecticut women’s hockey team fell by a 5-0 score to the Lakers on Saturday afternoon at the Mercyhurst Ice Center in Erie, Pa.

The loss drops UConn to 12-10-2 on the year while the Lakers up their mark to 21-1-2.

Mercyhurst wasted very little time in taking charge of today’s contest, scoring three first period goals, two off of the stick of Stefanie Bourbeau and one from Meghan Agosta. Mercyhurst outshot UConn 20-5 in that opening stanza as the Lakers ran out to a 3-0 lead. Agosta scored again at 5:11 of the second period and also on the power play at 15:23 on the third to complete her hat trick and account for the 5-0 final.

Brittany Wilson (Nepean, Ont.) made 41 stops in the UConn net. The Huskies were outshot 46-16 in the contest and Laura Hosier stopped all 16 to earn a shutout for Mercyhurst.

UConn will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 27, when the Huskies play host to Northeastern at 1:00 p.m. The game is a part of Hockey East’s Skating Strides Against Breast Cancer Day and the league will have several activities in connection with the game to help raise both awareness of the disease and funds to help find a cure.
