CONNECTICUT BLANKS ETOBICOKE, 6-0

STORRS, CONN. (Sept. 29, 2006) - Britney Chandler (Pickering, Ont.) scored twice and freshman Amy Hollstein (Pembroke, Mass.) had four points to lead the University of Connecticut women's hockey team to a 6-0 win over the Etobicoke Junior Dolphins in exhibition action on Friday night at UConn's Freitas Ice Forum. Brittany Wilson (Nepean, Ont.) stopped all seven shots she faced to earn a shutout in the Husky net.

After a scoreless first period of play in which UConn enjoyed a 14-3 shot advantage, the team started to do some damage on the score board in the second stanza, scoring three times. UConn opened the period on a power play and junior Jaclyn Hawkins (Manotick, Ont.) wasted little time, roofing a point-blank shot over Dolphin netminder Victoria Vigilanti just 22 seconds into the period. UConn doubled its lead at 11:34 when freshman Tiffany Good (Hellertown, Pa.) tipped a point shot by freshman Cristin Allen (Pickering, Ont.) up and over Vigilanti. UConn took a 3-0 edge with just 55 seconds to play in the second when Hollstein scored unassisted on her own rebound.

UConn would also tally thrice in the third period to account for the 6-0 final. At the 5:21 mark, Kristen Russell (Dauphin, Man.) scored on the power play as she converted from the doorstep on a feed by Hawkins from behind the net. UConn went up 5-0 at the 8:06 mark when Chandler potted the rebound of a shot by freshman Michelle Binning (Oshawa, Ont.). UConn picked up the game's final score with just over eight minutes to play as Chandler knocked in her second of the night.

UConn enjoyed a healthy 46-7 advantage in shots on goal and scored three power play goals on four attempts.

The Huskies open their 2006-07 regular season next weekend when UConn plays host to Hockey East rival Vermont on both Oct. 6 and Oct. 7 at the Freitas Ice Forum. Friday's game starts at 7:00 p.m. with a 4:00 p.m. face off on tap for Saturday.
