NORTHEASTERN SKATES PAST BLUEWATER, 4-1

team began its 2006-07 schedule on Saturday afternoon in good fashion, defeating the Bluewater Jr. Hawks, 4-1, at Matthews Arena.

Senior Ashley Bielawski got the scoring started in the first period, taking a feed from classmate Crystal Rochon and putting it by Bluewater goalie Tara Wister. Freshman Ginny Berg received the second assist on the tally.

Bielawski struck again at 13:42 of the second period, this time while the Huskies were shorthanded. Bielawski and junior Nikki Petrich broke in on a two-on-one rush, with Petrich threading a nice pass to Bielawski in front of the net for the goal.

Under five minutes later, it was Petrich's chance to get in on the scoring. The junior put a shot home after a scramble in front of the Bluewater net to give the Huskies a three-goal advantage.

Bluewater came out strong to begin the third period, scoring the team's only goal of the contest just 59 seconds in. The Hawks' Nicky Futers took a feed from Ally Tarr in front of the net and beat Husky junior goaltender Sarah Belliveau. The Huskies held on for the remainder of the period, however, with sophomore Missy Elumba adding the team's fourth goal on a power play at the 14:51 mark of the third. Freshman Julia Clark and Bielawski got the assists for NU.

NU dominated the Hawks for large periods of time, out-shooting Bluewater by a 41-16 margin. As a result, Bluewater's Wister and Lindsey Martin were forced to make a combined 37 saves. For Northeastern, Belliveau made 15 saves in a solid effort.

The Huskies will play their last exhibition game of the season tomorrow afternoon when they welcome the Toronto Jr. Aeros to Matthews Arena for a 12 p.m. game.
