The Women's Hockey East Association is pleased to announce the selection of 66 student-athletes to the 2005-06 All-Academic Team. To qualify for the team, an individual must achieve a grade-point-average of at least 3.0 in each of the two academic periods during which she was actively competing.

Northeastern University and first-year entry University of Vermont had the most honorees, with 11 each, followed by 10 each from Boston College and Maine. Northeastern also took credit for four of the six players in the first class of Distinguished Scholars in the women's league. Those earning Distinguished Scholar status achieved a 3.0 or better in each semester over four varsity seasons.

The Top Scholar-Athlete Award (highest GPA for the season) is presented to UNH defenseman Amy McLaughlin (Berlin, MA), who registered a perfect 4.0 in her senior season. She is joined on the 2005-06 Academic All-Star team by Northeastern forward Amy Goodney, Boston University goaltender Eden Spencer and three skaters from the University of Maine. The Academic All-Star team identifies the top GPAs by position.

The Women's Hockey East Association is an eight-team, Division-I college hockey conference, with offices based in Wakefield, Mass. Charter members UNH, Northeastern and Providence combined to win 15 conference championships prior to the new league's inaugural season of 2002-03.
