The 2014 Women's Hockey East Championship Tournament returns to Hyannis Youth and Community Center
Wakefield, Mass. - Hockey East announced the league's 2013-14 women's composite schedule for its 12th season of play on Tuesday.
New Hampshire is the first team to officially open the Hockey East schedule with a two-game series at St. Lawrence beginning on Friday, Sept. 27. Connecticut, under the direction of first-year head coach Chris MacKenzie, will host Union on Saturday, Sept. 28 to kickoff its season at Freitas Ice Forum.
Northeastern hosts Syracuse in its season opener on Friday, Oct. 4 at Matthews Arena, while Providence travels to Union that same night its in opener. Vermont entertains Penn State for a series in Burlington beginning on Friday at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
Maine travels to Boston College on Sunday, Oct. 6th in the opener of conference play at Conte Forum. Defending regular-season and tournament champion Boston University will be that last team to open its season, as they travel to ECAC foe Rensselaer on Friday, October 11.
All eight teams will qualify for the 2013 Women's Hockey East Tournament for the second straight season. The top four seeds will host a one-game quarterfinal playoff game the first weekend of March. The winners of the quarterfinal matchups advance and are reseeded for semifinal play.
Hockey East will host the 2014 Women's Hockey East Championship Tournament at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center (HYCC) on Saturday, March 8th and Sunday, March 9th in the Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. Memorial Skating Rink. The semifinals will be held on Saturday, March 9th with the winners of each semifinal advancing to the 12th annual Women's Hockey East Championship Game on Sunday, March 10th.
The Women's Hockey East Association is an eight-team, Division-I college hockey conference which began play in
2002-2003, with offices based in Wakefield, Mass. The league also sponsors an 11-team men's league which began
play in 1984.
