11TH ANNUAL LEAGUE TOURNAMENT PAIRINGS SET FOR QUARTERFINALS

Boston University will be the top seed in the 11th Women's Hockey East Tournament

WAKEFIELD, Mass. - The Women's Hockey East Association announced on Sunday the pairings for the upcoming 2013 league tournament on Friday, March 1st and Saturday, March 2nd at campus sites for the one-game quarterfinal playoff.

The regular-season champion Boston University Terriers will face No. 8 seed Connecticut on Saturday, March 2 at Walter Brown Arena at 3pm, while No. 2 seed Boston College will entertain No. 7 Maine on Friday, March 1 at Conte Forum (7pm). The Terriers, who won their second regular-season title in school history with a 18-2-1 record, have won the only meeting vs. the Huskies in the tournament in 2010, a 2-1 overtime victory in the Hockey East Championship Game. It marks the first meeting between the two schools in tournament play. The Eagles swept the season series with the Black Bears, while BU just completed a 3-0 series sweep vs. UConn the past weekend with two wins and won the league championship on Sunday with a 4-1 victory at Freitas Ice Forum.

No. 4 seed New Hampshire will entertain No. 5 seed Providence College on Saturday, March 2 at the Whittemore Center at 1pm. The Wildcats won the season series, 1-0-2 against the Friars. The teams have combined for seven of the 10 tournament championships in the league's history. The Friars won the first three titles (2003-05) and New Hampshire (2006-09) won the next four tournament titles. UNH owns a 3-2 all-time mark vs. PC in the league tournament, which included the last meeting in 2009 in semifinal play, a 3-1 UNH victory. No. 3 Northeastern and No. 6 Vermont will skate at Matthews Arena on Saturday night, March 2 at 7pm in Boston. It marks the Catamounts first playoff appearance in school history. The Huskies won the season series vs. UVM, 2-0-1.

The four winning teams will be reseeded and will play semifinal games on Saturday, March 9 at 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center's Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Rink. The advancing teams will play in the 11th annual Hockey East Championship Game on Sunday, March 10th at 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast on tape delay on the New England Sports Network (NESN) at 4pm. following their coverage of Boston Red Sox baseball.

The Women's Hockey East Association is an eight-team, Division-I college hockey conference which began play in 2002- 2003, with offices based in Wakefield, Mass. The league also sponsors an 10 team men's league which began play in 1984- 1984.
