Hyannis, Mass. -- The Women's Hockey East Association announced the league's 2012 All-Star teams, as voted on by the league's eight head coaches, on Friday night at the Resort and Conference Center at the annual WHEA Championship Awards Banquet.

Major Award Winners Photo Gallery

Northeastern's Florence Schelling (Oberengstringen, Switzerland), the unanimous 2012 Athletic Republic Player of the Year, headlined the group of First-Team All Stars, along with teammate and Hockey East Rookie of the Year Kendall Coyne (Palos Heights, Ill.). Schelling earned First-Team honors for the second time in her Husky career. Boston College placed two student-athletes on the First-Team in junior Blake Bolden (Stow, Ohio) and freshman forward Alex Carpenter (North Reading, Mass.). Boston University senior forward Jenn Wakefield (Pickering, Ont.) and senior defenseman Kasey Boucher (Lewiston, Maine) were also named to the squad. Carpenter, Schelling and Wakefield were all voted as unanimous selections to the First-Team squad.

BU's Tara Watchorn (Newcastle, Ont.) and Isabel Menard (Ottawa, Ont.) made the cut among the Second-Team All Stars, along with Providence's Genevieve Lacasse (Scarborough, Ont.), who was named an All-Star for the third time in her Friars career. Northeastern forward Casey Pickett (Wilmington, Mass.) and defenseman Stephanie Gavronsky (Sherwood Park, Alta.) earned All-Star honors for the first time in their respective careers. Maine's Brittany Dougherty (Chesterfield, Mich.) rounded out the group of Second-Team selections.

The Women's Hockey East Association is an eight-team, Division-I college hockey conference which began play in 2002-2003, with offices based in Wakefield, Mass. The league also sponsors a 10 team men's league which began play in 1984-1985.
