Vermont Defeated by Rensselaer, 1-0

TROY, N.Y. - RPI sophomore Owen Savory recorded a 38-save shutout as the Engineers came out with a 1-0 win over the Vermont Catamounts in a goaltender's duel Saturday night at Houston Field House.

COACH'S QUOTE

"Another good college hockey game in front of a great crowd at RPI," said head coach Kevin Sneddon. "Congrats to Dave Smith on career win 200. We know what we have a lot to improve on for the next nine Hockey East games."

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Vermont tested Savory in the first period, firing eight consecutive shots on the sophomore in the early part of the frame. A scoreless first 20 minutes ended with UVM holding a 17-10 advantage in shots.

- RPI senior Chase Zieky broke free in the slot and found a rebound for his seventh goal of the season at 14:55 of the second period. Tyler Harmon made the initial save on Jake Johnson but could not extend to make the rebound save.

- Harmon made a pair of stellar saves on an Engineer breakaway halfway through the third period to keep the Catamounts within a goal.

- Vermont had a pair of power play chances in the third period, but could not solve Savory and find the equalizer. UVM finished the final frame with 12 shots as six came on the man-advantage.

GAME NOTES

- Harmon recorded 34 saves in his second start of the season. Savory finished the game with 38 stops.

- Simon Boyko finished the game with a career-high six shots on goal. It also marked a game-high between both teams.

- Both teams finished the night 0-for-5 on the power play. Both teams were assessed seven minor penalties.
