Northeastern Earns Weekend Split with 7-3 Win Against Providence
Senior forward Matt Filipe scored two goals and an assist for the Huskies

BOSTON - An offensive onslaught headed up by Matt Filipe and Tyler Madden pushed the No. 14 Northeastern men's hockey team (6-4-2, 4-3-1 Hockey East) past No. 10 Providence (6-4-2, 4-3-1 Hockey East) on Saturday night in Matthews Arena. With the win, the Huskies ended the Friars' seven-game winning streak in the all-time series and recorded their first win over the Hockey East rival since 2016.

Six different Huskies recorded goals in tonight's thrilling conference victory, with Filipe leading the charge with two tallies on the night. On top of two goals, the Lynnfield, Mass. native also dished out two assists in the conference clash to lead the team with four points. The multi-point showing marks Filipe's first of the 2019-20 campaign.

Additionally, three freshmen recorded career-first points in the victory, with Jeremie Bucheler seeing his first career goal and multi-point game, Mike Kesselring scoring his first Northeastern goal and Jayden Struble picking up an assist.

After allowing just one power-play goal, the Northeastern penalty kill squads remains atop of the Hockey East leaderboard, stopping 44-out-of-48 extra-man opportunities through 12 games for a 91.7 penalty kill percentage.
