NEW HAVEN, Connecticut -- The University of Maine Black Bears were defeated by the Yale Bulldogs, 3-1, on Tuesday evening in Ingalls Rink.
First Goal (Maine 1-0): Immediately after the Ben Poisson face-off win, Adam Dawe took a shot that was saved by Corbin Kaczperski in the Yale net. Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup corralled the rebound and buried Maine's first goal of the night. The Black Bears grabbed a 1-0 lead 00:43 into the non-conference contest.
Second Goal (1-1): Tyler Welsh tied the Tuesday night game at one goal apiece with his tally 10:32 into the first period. Justin Pearson found his linemate, who was unaccounted for next to the Maine net. Welsh's fifth goal of the year was scored on an open net.
Third Goal (Yale 2-1): After the first television timeout of the second period, Luke Stevens gave his squad a one goal lead. The Bulldogs turned a 2-on-1 rush into a game changing tally. Hayden Rowan started the rush and found Stevens on the weak side. Yale grabbed a 2-1 lead 5:23 into the second period.
Fourth Goal (Yale 3-1): In the midst of an extremely long power play opportunity, Curtis Hall scored his squad's third goal of the evening. The puck found its way through traffic and into the back of the Maine net.
Unfortunately, Maine was unable to find a few goals in the waning minutes as Yale held onto their two goal lead for a victory on a rainy Tuesday evening.
Notes: Jeremy Swayman finished with 35 saves, while Corbin Kaczperski tallied 31 for Yale.
Maine went 0-5 on the power play, as the Bulldogs were 1-8 on their man advantages.
The Black Bears blocked 12 shots as a team.
Next: Maine returns to the ice Sunday, December 29th. Puck drop against AIC in the Alfond is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
