ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine men's ice hockey team battled to a 2-2 tie with the Nebraska Omaha Mavericks on Friday evening in the Alfond Arena.
First Goal(Nebraska Omaha 1-0): Kevin Conley scored a goal for UNO after Ryan Smith had his wrist shot saved. Joey Abate turned the Maine save into a rush with Taylor Ward and Conley. The Mavericks goal came 12:16 into the opening frame.
Second Goal (1-1): While skating with a man up for five minutes, the Black Bears tied the contest at one goal apiece. Adam Dawe worked the puck out of the corner back to Levi Kleiboer. The freshman found Tim Doherty, who was ready for a slapshot. Doherty's shot found its way through the Mavericks' defense and into the back of the net.
Third Goal (Nebraska Omaha 2-1): Seconds into their second power play of the evening, UNO took the lead back. Ryan Brushett lifted the puck over Swayman's pad into the Maine net. Omaha held onto a one goal lead halfway through the second period.
Fourth Goal (2-2): Tim Doherty once again tied the non-conference match-up. The forward's shot deflected off of an Omaha skater and into the Mavericks' net. Adrien Bisson and Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup were credited with assists on the tally.
The teams skated to a 2-2 tie after battling through five minutes overtime.
- Jeremy Swayman finished with 41 saves, while Austin Roden tallied 46 for UNO.
- Maine went 1-4 on the power play, as the Mavericks were 1-3 on their man advantages.
- The Black Bears blocked 15 shots as a team.
The two non-conference foes will do battle once again tomorrow, January 4th. Puck drop is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. in Portland, Maine, at the Cross Insurance Arena.
