Maine Shuts Out USA Under-18 Team, 2-0, in Exhibition Play
Freshman goalie Matthew Thiessen made 30 saves for the Black Bears

ORONO, Me. - Matthew Thiessen's shutout led the way in the University of Maine 2-0 exhibition victory over the USNTDP.

First Goal (Maine 1-0): Success on the power play has been a key over the last four games for the Black Bears. The trend continued late in the first period when Tim Doherty scored a goal on his squad's first power play chance. Veli-Matti Tiuraniemi fired a shot that deflected off Adam Dawe. The deflection found Doherty, who was left unmarked next to Team USA's net. Maine led 1-0 after the opening 20 minutes.

Second Goal (Maine 2-0): Ryan Smith ripped a shot off the pipe and into the net for Maine's second goal of the night. Tiuraniemi was credited with the first assist after her found Smith waiting patiently. The senior's slapshot gave the Black Bears a 2-0 lead early in the second period.

Maine held onto the 2-0 for the exhibition victory over the USNTDP.
