ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine men's ice hockey team was defeated by the University of New Brunswick, 5-0, in an exhibition game on Sunday afternoon.
First Period
First Goal (UNB 1-0): The Varsity Reds struck first in the afternoon exhibition. Matthew Boucher found the back of the net on a power play opportunity for his squad. It was the only tally of the first 20:00.
Second Period
Second Goal (UNB 2-0): Alexandre Goulet was credited with the Varsity Reds second goal. He crashed the net and put away a rebound during 4-on-4 action. After the play, the referees went to video review to determine that the goal was good.
Third Goal (UNB 3-0): After multiple penalties on both teams, the Reds took advantage of their 4-on-3 power play. Oliver LeBlanc tallied UNB's third of the night.
Fourth Goal (UNB 4-0): Patrick Watling netted his squad's third goal in as many minutes to pad the lead to four.
Third Period
Fifth Goal (UNB 5-0): On their fifth power play of the afternoon, New Brunswick cashed in with their fifth goal. The visiting Varsity Reds grabbed their fifth and final goal of the contest.
Maine was unable to mount a comeback as they dropped their first exhibition of the 2019-20 season.
Notes:
-The Black Bears' penalty kill was 2-for-5 in the game.
-Stephen Mundinger started the game for the Black Bears and stopped 17 of 18 shots faced. Matthew Thiessen finished the game with 10 saves in relief.
