BOSTON, Mass. - A trio of power-play goals from Aidan McDonough and Tyler Madden led the No. 13 Northeastern men's hockey team (5-3-2, 2-2-1 Hockey East) to a 3-1 victory over Merrimack (2-7-1, 1-3-1 Hockey East) on Saturday night in Matthews Arena.
Grabbing the feed from Ryan Shea, Madden juked out the defender before firing the puck over the shoulder of the Merrimack goaltender to give Northeastern a 1-0 mark at 8:11 in the first period. The goal marked the sophomore's third power-play goal so far this season.
McDonough continued the Huskies' offensive momentum into the second frame, scoring a pair of goals on the extra-man advantage to give the Huskies the 3-0 lead. With the two points, the Milton, Mass.-native earned his first multi-point game of the season, as well as his second and third power-play goals of the year.
In net, Craig Pantano earned his fifth win as a Husky, stopping 19 out of 20 shots on goal. Additionally, the Huskies penalty-kill unit remained flawless on the night, shutting down all five of Merrimack's man-up opportunities.
