LOWELL, Mass. -- Senior goaltender Tyler Wall (Leamington, Ont.) amassed 33 saves to pace the UMass Lowell Hockey team in the 3-3 tie with Boston University in the Hockey East opener on Friday night at the Tsongas Center.
The River Hawks now own a 3-2-2 overall record (0-0-1 HEA), while BU is now 1-1-2 overall (0-0-1 HEA).
"It was an entertaining game, despite the score," said UMass Lowell Head Coach Norm Bazin. "Being three down to Boston University and coming back, it's certainly something that hasn't happened that often. I am proud of our guys for clawing back."
Sophomore defenseman Seth Barton (Kelowna, B.C.) scored the game-tying goal just 1:20 into the third period to knot the game at 3-3. Barton finished the game with a game-high five shots on goal.
Sophomore defenseman Chase Blackmun (Hudson, Wis.) got the River Hawks on the board midway through the second period and then Kenny Hausinger scored his fourth of the season with 4:02 to play in the second frame.
David Farrance scored a power play marker to make it 3-0 in favor of BU at 7:48 of the second period.
BU's Patrick Harper opened the scoring in the game at 8:36 and then scored just 14 seconds into the middle stanza with a shorthanded tally to give the Terriers a 2-0 lead.
Wall registered 14 saves in the second period and 11 in the third period and overtime. Sam Tucker finished the night with 25 saves for the Terriers in the tie.
Junior forward Charlie Levesque (Russell, Ont.) won a game-high 16 face-offs for the River Hawks on the night.
UMass Lowell returns to action on Saturday, October 26th at Providence. Game time from Schneider Arena in Providence, R.I. is 7 p.m. The game will be televised regionally on the New England Sports Network (NESN).
