BOSTON - Late goals from Matt Filipe and Zach Solow lifted the No. 11 Northeastern men's hockey team (13-5-2, 7-4-1 Hockey East) to a 4-2 victory over the Bentley Falcons (8-11-1, 6-9-0 Atlantic Hockey) on Monday night at Matthews Arena.
After a first period power-play goal from Aidan McDonough had given the Huskies the 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission, the teams shared a scoreless second period. Hoping to break through Northeastern's early lead, the Falcons took the shot advantage through the second frame, putting up 11 shots to the Huskies' four.
Bentley's offensive pressure eventually cracked the Northeastern lead, tying the teams at 1-1 two minutes into the final frame. Shortly thereafter, a one-timer from Tyler Madden gave Northeastern a 2-1 margin before the Falcons earned one back to lock the teams up once more. As the minutes wound down, a game-winning wrist shot from Filipe with 1:44 left on the clock broke the 2-2 deadlock, giving Solow momentum to fire in one last shot less than 30 seconds after to secure the 4-2 victory for the Huskies.
Between the pipes, Craig Pantano continued to be a defensive stalwart for the Huskies, stopping 26 shots on the night.
