ORONO, Maine - The Black Bears defeated the Seawolves of Alaska Anchorage, 2-1 in overtime, Saturday night at Alfond Arena.
First Goal (Maine 1-0): The first goal of the non-conference matchup was started by Tim Doherty who hit the puck into the back of Adam Dawe, where Samuel Rennaker scooped up the loose puck and fired a wrist shot. The puck found its way through the Seawolves' defense and into the back of the net. Maine lead 1-0 halfway through the second period.
Second Goal (1-1): Nick Wicks won the offensive zone face-off directly to the stick of Tomi Hiekkavirta, who fired a slap shot that beat Jeremy Swayman high to the glove side. The Seawolves tied the game, 1-1, as the second period neared its end.
Third Goal (Maine 2-1): Maine entered the puck into the corner, where Tim Doherty swung it over to Mitchell Fossier. Fossier then fired the puck off the glass, where it bounced off of the glass to the stick of Eduards Tralmaks. The forward fired it off of the skate of the Seawolves defender right into the net. The overtime goal gave Maine their second consecutive win.
Notes: Jeremy Swayman had 37 saves on 38 shots.
Tralmaks scored his first game winning goal of the season, while Samuel Rennaker scored his first goal for the Black Bears.
Kris Carlson for Alaska finished with 26 saves on 28 shots.
Next: Maine hits the road, down to Quinnipiac for a pair of games on Friday, Oct. 18 and Saturday, Oct. 19. Both games are scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
