Northeastern Earns Weekend Split With 4-2 Win Over Boston College
Sophomore goaltender Cayden Primeau made 41 saves for the Huskies

BOSTON - Entering the third period up 1-0, the No. 9 Northeastern men's hockey team (22-10-1, 14-8-1) scored three straight in the final frame and weathered a late storm from Boston College (11-19-3, 10-10-3) thanks to 41 saves from Cayden Primeau to earn a 4-2 victory on Saturday night at Matthews Arena.

The win moves the Huskies into a tie for second place in the league standings with one game to play. Northeastern is in a fight with UMass Lowell and Boston University for the right to host a Hockey East quarterfinal series, a contest that won't be determined until the final night of the regular season next weekend.

The victory also marks the 22nd of the year for Northeastern, tied for the fourth most in single-season history, and the 14th conference win of the season, just the fourth time in the Hockey East era that the Huskies have reached at least 14 league wins.

Primeau collected his 20th win of the year, good for the third most in single-season history, thanks to a stellar performance throughout the night, keeping the Eagles at bay until Boston College spoiled the shutout late in regulation, making at least 40 saves for the third time this season.

Rookie AJ Villella got Northeastern off to a hot start with his first collegiate tally three minutes into the game, taking a feed from Ryan Shea and whistling a shot from the point home for the score.

The game remained that way until 1:16 into the third when Patrick Schule buried his own rebound after a pass from Jordan Harris (two assists), beating BC goaltender Joseph Woll (18 saves) for his 10th of the season.

Brandon Hawkins finished off pretty passing from Harris and Grant Jozefek (three assists) minutes later to give the hosts a 3-0 lead before Austin Plevy tacked on another insurance marker with 6:31 left to play for a 4-0 lead.

Boston College would break through with two goals in the five minutes from David Cotton and Aapeli Rasenen, but it wasn't enough as Primeau and the Northeastern defense slammed the door from there.

Northeastern will close the regular season next Friday when the Huskies host New Hampshire on Senior Night at Matthews Arena (7 p.m.). Tickets are available by visiting NUHuskies.com/tickets.
