ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine men's hockey team went into Saturday night looking to get a win for its seniors in their final regular season game at home but got tripped up in the Hockey East battle with No. 19 Boston College, 5-0.

The Eagles jumped out to an early lead when Michael Karow kept the puck in the zone and found Casey Fitzgerald for a slapshot from the right point that squeaked through a screen. The Black Bears looked to equalize minutes later - and held an early edge in shots on goal - with Mitchell Fossier firing a shot off the rush but Jacob Woll made save. The visitors would make it 2-0 midway through the first period when Julius Mattila potted a rebound at the top of the crease.

Zach Walker's one-timer eight minutes into the middle frame would give the Eagles the three-goal lead but again, Maine kept trying to find the net. Woll was strong in net though, stopping Fossier's wrap around bid midway through the period and then gloving Nolan Vesey's look from the right dot.

Logan Hutsko's wrister 18 seconds into the third period extended the lead for BC. Minutes later the Black Bears got a nice look from Eduards Tralmaks off of a rebound of a Patrick Holway shot but the puck trickled past the right post.

After going 45 minutes without a penalty called in the game, Maine finally got a power-play attempt in the third period but wasn't able to produce. Despite a nice look from Tralmaks in the slot midway through the final frame, Maine couldn't move the twine.

Graham McPhee would add an empty-net goal for BC with 1:35 remaining to make it a final 5-0 score.

Woll finished with 33 saves for the shutout while for Maine, Jeremy Swayman made 20 saves and Rob McGovern had eight. The teams ended up tied in shots, 33-33.

The Black Bears and Eagles will close out the regular season next weekend when Maine travels to Chestnut Hill for a pair of games at the Conte Forum on Friday and Saturday.
