WHAT HAPPENED

After a scoreless first period, Sacred Heart took a 1-0 lead at the 11:03 mark of the second period as Austin McIlmurray scored his first goal of the season. Kory Kennedy won the faceoff over to Jeff Carroll in the slot. The puck deflected off him and went over to McIlmurray who fired a shot into the upper corner of the net.

At the 11:39 mark, the Pioneers took a 2-0 on a goal by Jordan Minello. The play started with a pass from the point from Liam Clare to Minello. He passed the puck to Alec Butcher in the slot who muffed his shot but was able to pass it back to Minello. He then fired a one-timer into the net.

Senior forward Tyler Kelleher (Longmeadow, Mass.) got the 'Cats onto the board with his fifth goal of the season at 13:42 of the third period while on a power play. Senior captain Matias Cleland (Longmont, Colo.) played a pass into the neutral zone to freshman Patrick Grasso (Ankeny, Iowa). He skated into the SHU zone and found Kelleher open to the right of Pioneer netminder Nathan Perry. Kelleher ripped a laser into the net for the tally.

With 28 seconds remaining in regulation, freshman Liam Blackburn (Prince George, British Columbia) drew the score level to 2-2 with the extra attacker goal. Blackburn started the play with a pass from behind the net to classmate Brendan van Riemsdyk (Middletown, N.J.) along the redline. He played a pass to sophomore Marcus Vela (Burnaby, British Columbia) who was on the opposite post. He played a pass through the legs of Perry to Blackburn who finished the play with a one-timer. It was his second goal of the season.
