DURHAM, N.H. - Senior forward Tyler Kelleher(Longmeadow, Mass.) notched a goal and an assist as the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team defeated the University of Maine, 5-1, Friday night at the Whittemore Center.

WHAT HAPPENED

The Black Bears took a 1-0 lead at the 13:08 mark of the first period on a deflection goal off a shot by Mitchell Fossier on a power play. Patrick Holway swung the puck across to Eric Schurhamer who fed the puck to Fossier along the boards. He flung a puck into the front of the net that deflected off a skate and into the net.

Senior forward Tyler Kelleher (Longmeadow, Mass.) tied the game at 6:23 of the second stanza with his ninth goal of the season on a power play. Junior Michael McNicholas (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) tipped the puck back to senior captain Matias Cleland (Longmont, Colo.). Cleland fed the puck to Kelleher who unleashed a wrister on net that went into the top corner.

Kelleher recorded his second goal of the night to give the 'Cats a 2-1 lead at 14:54 of the second period. Kelleher gained control of the puck at the centerline next to the bench, skated across the ice and carried the puck to the red line of the Maine net. He skated across the face of the net and put it away as he dove across the crease.

Freshman Trevor van Riemsdyk (Middletown, N.J.) opened the score up to 3-1 at 2:42 of the third period with his second goal of the season. Fellow freshman Liam Blackburn (Prince George, British Columbia) started the play as he sent a pass to the point to Cameron Marks (North Vancouver, British Columbia). Marks sent the puck in on net and van Riemsdyk tipped it past Black Bear netminder Rob McGovern and into the net.

Jason Salvaggio scored his eighth goal of the year at 14:18 of the third stanza to give UNH a 4-1 lead. Sophomore Frankie Cefalu (Buffalo, N.Y.) dished a pass to Kelleher in the neutral zone. He skated in a fired a puck on net that McGovern saved, but Salvaggio one timed the rebound into the net.

Marks scored his first goal of the season with 4:35 left in the third period with a wrist shot from just inside the point. Sophomore Chris Miller (Windham, N.H.) dished a pass to Cleland who in turn played it to Marks. His shot found the left side of the net past relief netminder Matt Morris.
