PITTSBURGH - The No. 8 ranked UMass Lowell Hockey team fell to Robert Morris, 5-3, on Tuesday night in the Three Rivers Classic Championship Game at CONSOL  Energy Center.

With the loss, the River Hawks fall to 11-4-4, while Robert Morris improves to 11-4-3 overall with the victory.

Robert Morris scored two goals in the third period to seal the victory on goals by Brandon Denham at 8:26 and Zac Lynch at 17:42.

Junior forward Joe Gambardella (Staten Island, N.Y.) and senior forward Ryan McGrath (O'Fallon, Mo.) scored at 5:20 and 7:55 of the second period, but the Colonials came storming just 22 seconds later on a goal by Lynch and then Matt Cope at 11:12 of the second period to tie the game at 3-3.

Brady Ferguson gave Robert Morris a 1-0 lead at 7:17 of the first period for his ninth goal of the season on a breakaway as he scored on a rebound off his own shot that beat UMass Lowell goalie Kevin Boyle glove side.

Sophomore defenseman Chris Forney (Thief River Falls, Minn.) tied the game for the River Hawks at 1-1 with 23.7 seconds left in the first period for his third career goal.

Senior forward Adam Chapie (Oxford, Mich.) and junior co-captain Michael Kapla (Eau Claire, Wis.) were named to the Three Rivers Classic All-Tournament Team for their efforts over the two-day tournament..

Senior goaltender Kevin Boyle (Manalapan, N.J.) notched 24 saves in the losing effort, while Dalton Izyk totaled 27 saves in fifth win of the season for Robert Morris.

Freshman forward Nick Master (Broomall, Pa.) won 16 of 28 faceoffs (57%) and notched a game-high four shots on goal for the River Hawks.

UMass Lowell returns to action on Friday, January 8th at New Hampshire in Hockey East play. Game time from Towse Rink at the Whittemore Center in Durham, N.H. is 7 p.m.
