HAMILTON, N.Y. - Nick Saracino's second goal of the night early in the third period proved to be the game-winner as the third-ranked Providence College men's hockey team edged Colgate, 4-3, on Saturday night at Starr Rink.

The Friars improve to 6-0-1 and run their unbeaten streak dating back to last season to 11 games, which is the longest unbeaten streak in team history. Freshman Hayden Hawkey (Parker, Colo.) earned his first career start and recorded his first win with a 24-save effort.

Jake Walman (Toronto, Ont.) added to his team lead in scoring with a goal and an assist, totaling 12 points this season. The sophomore defenseman has scored five goals in his last five games. Senior Brandon Tanev (Toronto, Ont.) also added two assists for the Friars.

A frantic pace to open the game saw the teams play nearly six consecutive minutes without a whistle. From there, the Friars gained some momentum with strong shifts in the offensive zone, but couldn't find their way past Finn.

Saracino finally solved Finn on the power play after camping out in front of the goal and re-directing a point shot from Walman at 11:03 for his second strike of the year. Hawkey kept the Raiders at bay with a highlight reel save off of Panowyk, as the freshman dove across and got the glove on what appeared destined for an empty net.

Shortly after, Colgate got one through as Evan Peterson hammered a loose puck over Hawkey's shoulder to knot the game at one.

After Tylor Spink rang the post in the opening seconds of the second period, the Friars seized momentum and registered the next 10 shots on goal. Narrowly missing on a breakaway seconds earlier, freshman Garrett Gamez notched his first career goal at 5:13. Providence cashed in again on Walman's fourth strike of the weekend and seventh of the season to give the visitors a two-goal cushion at 3-1.

The Raiders continued to battle, eventually cutting the deficit to 3-2 after Darcy Murphy's tip-in off a shot from Tylor Spink on the power play. The Friars held a 19-6 edge in shots during a strong middle stanza.

Colgate opened the third with some good looks at the goal, but Hawkey was up to the task to keep the one-goal cushion. Saracino's second strike of the game at the 3:55 mark gave Providence a 4-2 lead, but Colgate answered with a response just 50 seconds later to make it 4-3. The Friars defense held the rest of the way and outshot the host Raiders in the third period by a 11-7 margin.

Up next, the Friars will be idle next weekend before beginning Hockey East play with a home-and-home against Boston University on Nov. 13-14.
