AMHERST, Mass. - Junior Ben Gallacher scored the only goal of the night for UMass hockey as the squad dropped an 11-1 decision to Vermont on Saturday night at the Mullins Center. The setback leaves the Minutemen at 3-7-0 overall and 1-6-0 in Hockey East, while the Catamounts improve to 8-3-1 overall and 6-3-1 in conference action.

After a few early chances for UMass, Vermont took a 1-0 lead 9:36 into the first period. Brady Shaw scored from the slot on the rush off a feed from Kevin Irwin and Jake Fallon.

The Catamounts then took advantage of their first power play of the contest with a one-timer from Alexx Privitera from the top of the right faceoff circle finding the back of the net at the 12:32 mark. Brendan Bradley and Mario Puskarich earned assists on the play.

Less than two minutes later, Vermont's Anthony Petruzzelli knocked in a puck at the left post to increase the margin to 3-0 14:11 into the stanza.

UVM added its fourth of the night 5:45 into the second with Fallon setting up Kevin Irwin with his second assist of the contest before the Minutemen broke up the shutout bid with a shorthanded tally at the 8:36 mark. Senior Zack LaRue fed Gallacher for a one-timer past Brody Hoffman on a 2-on-1 break.

The Catamounts went on to add two more tallies in the second period, at 9:49 and 14:18, by Puskarich and Malcom McKinney, respectively.

Vermont tacked on five additional goals in the third period, three coming on the power play as the squad finished the night 4-for-5 with the man advantage, while UMass was 0-for-4. Hoffman had 28 saves in the contest for the Catamounts, while all three Minutemen netminders saw action as Steve Mastalerz (10), Henry Dill (7) and Alex Wakaluk (3) combined for 20 saves.

The teams will be back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 25, in Burlington, Vt., a contest that will be televised on NESN.
