ORONO, Maine -- Cam Brown (Natick, Massachusetts) had a pair of goals, however it was not enough as the University of Maine men's ice hockey team fell to second ranked Union 5-2 on Saturday night at Alfond Arena.

Union opened the scoring just 51 seconds into the game when Daniel Ciampini and Jeff Taylor teamed up on a give-and-go. After dropping the puck for Taylor, Ciampini received it back and beat Maine goalie Sean Romeo (Cary, North Carolina).

Maine tied the score at a goal apiece when Jake Rutt (Scarborough, Maine) fed Brown, who had his shot from the face-off circle beat Union netminder Colin Stevens.

The Dutchmen answered with three goals in less than seven minutes to take a 4-1 lead. Michael Pontarelli scored his first of the season on the power play, while Ryan Scarfo and Ciampini each added even-strength tallies. Union extended its lead to 5-1 at 8:44 of the third period with a power play goal by JC Brassard.

Brown added his second of the night at 17:38 of the third period. Brian Morgan (Windham, New Hampshire) had a shot that Union goalie Alex Sakellaropoul saved, but the rebound went right to Brown in the slot who fired it into the back of the net. Rutt picked up his second assist of the game on the goal.

Union, who improves to 4-0-0 on the season, outshot Maine 39-33 in the game. The Black Bears, who fall to 0-4-0 on the seson, were 1-for-6 on the power play. The Dutchmen finshed 2-for-6 with the man advantage.

Romeo got the start in goal for the Black Bears and made 21 saves on 24 shots in 27:29. He falls to 0-2-0 on the season. Matt Morris (Ridgewood, New Jersey) made 13 saves on 15 shots in 31:06.

Colin Stevens made 27 saves in 51:22. He improvs to 4-0-0 on the season. Sakellaropoul made four saves in 8:38.

Maine returns to action on Friday, Oct. 24 when it welcomes the University of Alaska Anchorage to Alfond Arena. The puck is set to drop at 7 PM on Friday night. Tickets can be purchased online at www.goblackbearstickets.com(.)
