AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass hockey team rallied from a 2-1 deficit, scoring twice in the third to pick up a 3-2 win over Maine in non-league action on Friday night at the Mullins Center. Following the victory, the Minutemen improve to 6-14-0 on the season, while the Black Bears fall to 6-14-0.

Junior Shane Walsh scored for a second straight game for UMass, logging a career high three points on two goals and an assist, setting new career highs for goals for both a single game and a season. Sophomore Steven Iacobellis contributed a goal and an assist for his eighth career multi-point game, while also blocking three shots. Freshman Brandon Montour continued his point scoring streak with an assist as the defenseman now has five points in the past four contests, just five games into his young collegiate career. Redshirt senior Troy Power added a helper as well, his eighth of the season for a new career high.

After a scoreless first, Maine took a 1-0 lead 4:22 into the second. Moments after a UMass penalty had expired, Dan Renouf drove home a rebound off a shot from Eric Schurhamer. Cam Brown earned an assist on the play, as well.

UMass tied the score 1-1 at the 10:01 mark with a shorthanded goal by Walsh. Montour picked up a loose puck in the Minutemen's defensive zone and started a rush up the ice. Walsh finished the feed from Montour at the top of the right faceoff circle.

However, the Black Bears climbed back on top before the intermission, 2-1, with a shorthanded tally of their own. Blaine Byron centered the puck from behind the net for Cam Brown, who set up the one-timer by Conor Riley at 14:24.

Then midway through the third period, Iacobellis buried a feed from Power and Walsh in the slot to tie the score at 2-2, 10:27 into the stanza.

Iacobellis later assisted the game winner, finding Walsh streaking towards the goal at the back post for a wide open net at 17:02.

Freshman Henry Dill earned his sixth win of the season (6-7-0), making 35 saves in net for the Minutemen as UMass was out-shot, 37-22 in the contest. Sean Romeo had 19 stops for Maine. On the power play for the night, the Minutemen went 0-for-4, while the Black Bears were 0-for-3.

The teams will be back in action tomorrow night, Jan. 10, at 7:00 p.m. The first 3,000 fans in attendance will receive Sam The Minuteman bobble heads.
