ORONO, Maine - Jake Rutt (Scarborough, Maine) and Devin Shore (Ajax, Ontario) each had a goal and an assist to lead the University of Maine men's ice hockey team to a 4-2 victory over #17 Boston College on Sunday afternoon at Alfond Arena. Sean Romeo (Cary, North Carolina) made 34 saves in the game, including 15 in the third period alone to ensure the victory for the Black Bears.

Maine improves to 8-15-1 on the season and 3-7-0 in Hockey East play. Boston College, who entered the game with an eight game unbeaten streak, falls to 13-8-2 overall, 6-5-2 in conference play.

After a scoreless first period, Maine broke the deadlock at 11:58 of the second period. Devin Shore (Ajax, Ontario) found Jake Rutt on the blueline. Rutt had his shot elude the Boston College defense and find the back of the net. For Rutt, it was his second goal of the season. Nolan Vesey (No. Reading, Massachusetts) also assisted on the goal.

Maine added to its lead just over four minutes later. Again, Rutt had a shot from the blueline, but this time, Liam Pecararo (Canton, Massachusetts) tipped the shot past Boston College netminder Thatcher Demko. For Pecararo, it was his second goal of the season. Cam Brown (Natick, Massachusetts) dished out an assist on the goal as well.

Boston College got on the board just 1:57 into the third period. Noah Hanifin fed Michael Sit who had his shot hit the post. The puck then deflected back to him on Romeo's stick side and he shot it into the back of the net.

Maine regained the two goals cushion at 8:48 of the period. Shore won a faceoff back to Eric Schurhamer (St. Paul, Minnesota) and had a shot that Demko saved. The rebound when right to Shore, who fired it into the net for his sixth goal of the season.

Boston College pulled to within a goal once again when Ian McCoshen had a shot that Ryan Fitzgerald deflected by Romeo for his ninth goal of the season. Alex Tuch also assisted on the Maine.

Maine responded back just over a minute later. Brown picked off the puck from a Boston College defender and as he was getting tripped got the puck to Cedric Lacroix (Shefford, Quebec). Lacroix beat Demko for his second goal of the season to extend Maine's lead to 4-2.

Boston College pulled Demko in favor of an extra attacker and had a power play in the final minutes, but Romeo was able to save everything that he faced to give Maine the 4-2 win.

Boston College outshot Maine 36-30 in the game. The Black Bears were scoreless in four power play chances and held Boston College scoreless in all six of its power play opportunities.

Maine goalie Sean Romeo (Cary, North Carolina) made 34 saves to earn the win. He improves to 5-10-0 on the season.

Boston College netminder Thatcher Demko stopped 26 shots. He falls to 11-7-2.
