MAINE TIES CORNELL, 1-1, IN FLORIDA COLLEGE CLASSIC TITLE GAME
Big Red Wins FCC Title in Shoot-Out

Devin Shore scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season for Maine

ESTERO, Fla. -- The University of Maine men's ice hockey team skated to a 1-1 tie with Cornell in the championship game of the 2013 Florida College Classic on Sunday night at Germain Arena in Estero, Fla. Cornell won the 2013 title via a shoot-out victory. Maine moves to 10-6-2 on the season, while Cornell moves to 8-4-3.

The two teams played nearly two periods of scoreless hockey, before Maine got on the board with just 1:01 remaining in the second period. Devin Shore (Ajax, Ontario) scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season on a pass from Connor Leen (Chester, N.Y.). Steven Swavely (Reading, Pa.) also assisted on the goal.

Cornell tied the game at 1-1 at 5:35 of the third period when Christian Hillbrich had his shot deflect off a Maine player and past Maine goalie Martin Ouellette (St.-Hippolyte, Quebec).

Neither team scored the remainder of regulation or during the five minute overtime period, so the game went to a shoot-out to decide the 2013 champion. Both Maine's Devin Shore and Cornell's Patrick McCarron made their first attempt. The goalies for both teams took over, stopping the next 15 shots, before Cornell's Rodger Craig won the game in the fourth shot of sudden death.

Cornell outshot Maine 36-33 in the game. Maine was scoreless in one power play opportunity, while Cornell was scoreless in both of their chances.

Ouellette made 35 saves and moves to 9-6-2 on the season. Andy Iles made 32 saves and moves to 7-4-3 on the season.

Maine's Shore and Ouellette were both named to the 2013 Florida College Classic All-Tournament team, announced after the game.

The Black Bears return to action on Friday, Jan. 3 when they travel to Quinnipiac.
