BOSTON UNIVERSITY DOWNS BOSTON COLLEGE, 4-2
Evan Rodrigues, Wade Megan and Matt Nieto each post multiple point games for Terriers

Sophomore forward Evan Rodrigues had a goal and an assist for the Terriers

BOSTON, Mass. - Thanks to 35 saves from freshman Matt O'Connor and a strong effort up and down the lineup, the No. 9 Boston University men's ice hockey team posted a 4-2 victory over archrival and top-ranked Boston College on Friday evening at Agganis Arena.

The Terriers improved to 8-4-0 overall and 6-3-0 in Hockey East play and picked up their first win over a No. 1-ranked squad since a 4-3 triumph over BC at Conte Forum on Jan. 27, 2006.

BU never trailed in the game, as junior Garrett Noonan opened the scoring near the game's midpoint and sophomore Evan Rodrigues doubled the lead with 3:58 left in the second.

The visitors got on the board just 38 seconds after Rodrigues' tally on a goal from senior Pat Mullane, but the Terriers reestablished a two-goal cushion when freshman Matt Grzelcyk converted a wraparound in the early stages of the third.

The Eagles (10-2-0, 8-2-0 Hockey East) pulled goaltender Parker Milner late in the game to create a 6-on-4 advantage following a BU penalty. The Terriers, however, tacked on an shorthanded empty-netter with a goal by senior Wade Megan to make it 4-1.

Another Terrier penalty gave BC a 6-on-3 advantage, which it cashed in on with 24 seconds left to create the 4-2 final. Sophomore Johnny Gaudreau provided the marker, his league-leading 10th of the season.

BU did not convert on either of its two power-play chances but killed off six of the Eagles' seven chances on the man advantage with the lone exception being the 6-on-3. BC, which held a 37-34 edge in shots, got a 30-save performance from Milner.

Rodrigues and Megan each added an assist for two-point nights and junior Matt Nieto assisted on both of BU's first two goals.

The teams will face off again on Saturday (Dec. 1) to complete their home-and-home weekend at 7:30 p.m. at Conte Forum. It will also decide the season series between the teams, as BC posted a 4-2 win at Agganis back on Nov. 11.
