CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Second-ranked Boston College scored five even-strength goals by five different players in the first period en route to a 7-0 Hockey East rout of Providence in front of 7,419 fans in Kelley Rink.

Six players tallied multiple-point performances and goaltenders Parker Milner and Chris Venti combined to stop all 29 shots, blanking the Friars for the second straight night and backstopping league-leading Boston College to its ninth straight victory.

The Eagles' top line of left wing Barry Almeida (1 goal, 3 assists), center Bill Arnold (2 goals, 1 assist) and right wing Steven Whitney (1 goal, 2 assists) racked up four goals and 10 points to pace the offensive attack, while freshman wing Johnny Gaudreau scored twice and senior defensemen Tommy Cross and Edwin Shea each tallied two assists.

The scoring started when Whitney sniped the first shot of the game past Providence goalie Alex Beaudry just 29 seconds into the contest.

Freshman Danny Linell doubled the lead at the 13:02 mark and Arnold made it 3-0 just 11 seconds later - at 13:13. The Eagles finished the scoring in the period with a pair of breakaway chances, each coming moments after a successful penalty kill. Almeida buried his chance from Arnold at the 15:36 mark. Gaudreau capped the first-period scoring off a feed from Almeida at 18:33.

After a scoreless middle period, Arnold extended the hosts lead to 6-0 just 46 seconds into the third period. Gaudreau netted a power-play goal at 3:22 of the third for the 7-0 final.

Milner stopped all 25 shots he faced in his 49:14, extending his scoring streak to 140:17 dating back to the second period of the team's 2-1 win at Merrimack (Feb. 18). Venti made four saves in the final 10:46.

Milner improved his record to 19-5-0 on the season and 32-9-1 in his career.

Beaudry made 11 saves in his one period of work and fell to 11-16-4 for the year. Senior Justin Gates stopped 13 of 15 shots in the game's final 40 minutes.

This afternoon's victory marked win No. 100 for Boston College's six member senior class.
