Junior forward Cam Atkinson scored two goals for the Eagles

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Junior Cam Atkinson and sophomore Chris Kreider each netted two goals to lead fourth-ranked Boston College to a 5-2 Hockey East win over UMass-Lowell before 3,322 fans in Kelley Rink.

The host Eagles led 2-0 after one period and 4-2 after two periods, before Kreider added an empty-net goal in the final minute of play.

Kreider opened the scoring at 10:08 and Atkinson doubled the BC advantage at 19:47.

Boston College tallied two special-teams goals - an Atkinson power-play goal at 4:50 and a Jimmy Hayes shorthanded goal at 8:54 - to raise the lead to 4-0. UMass-Lowell answered with two goals in 61 seconds to halve the BC margin. Freshman Derek Arnold scored a power-play goal at 9:03, and junior Matt Ferreira struck at 10:04.

The third period was scoreless until Kreider scored with 54 seconds remaining.

Senior John Muse made 15 stops to earn his 66th career victory. UMass-Lowell freshman Marc Boulanger recorded 25 saves in 56:59.
