Brian Flynn had two goals and three assists for Maine

PORTLAND, Maine -- The University of Maine men's ice hockey team exploded for 10 goals as it routed St. Lawrence 10-1 on Saturday night at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, Maine. Brian Flynn (Lynnfield, Mass.) had two goals and three assists, while Tanner House (Cochrane, Alberta) chipped in with two goals and two assists. Robby Dee (Plymouth, Minn.) had two goals and an assists, while Gustav Nyquist (Malmo, Sweden) had a goal and three assists.

Maine scored early and often in the first period. Robby Dee picked off a St. Lawrence clearing pass and rifled a shot past Saint Lawrence goalie Alex Petizian just 29 seconds into the first period, giving Maine a 1-0 lead. For Dee, it was his fourth goal of the season. Tanner House gave Maine a 2-0 lead at 3:42 with his third goal of the weekend and fifth of the season on the power play. He received a pass from Dee and beat Petizian. Gustav Nyquist (Malmo, Sweden) also assisted on the goal which was the 50th point of his career.

Maine extended its lead to 3-0 when Nyquist scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season at 8:54. Ryan Hegarty (Arlington, Mass.) and Flynn each assisted on the goal by Nyquist. Flynn got into the scoring column when he beat Petizian with a power play goal at 14:49 to give Maine a 4-0 lead. Adam Shemansky (Robbinsville, N.J.) and Spencer Abbott (Hamilton, Ontario) each assisted on the goal for the Black Bears.

Maine extended its lead to 5-0 when Dee scored his second goal of the night on the power play at 17:58 of the first period. It was the fifth goal of the season for Dee. Will O'Neill (Salem, Mass.) and House both assisted on the goal.

Joey Diamond (Long Beach, N.Y.) gave the Black Bears a 6-0 lead when he tipped home a Mike Cornell (Franklin, Mass.) shot from the blueline just 2:02 into the second period. Kyle Beattie (Avondale, Ariz.) picked up his first career point with an assist on the goal.

Maine made it a 7-0 lead when Will O'Neill scored a 5-on-3 goal with a shot from the left face-off circle at 11:00 of the second period. Flynn fed O'Neill for his ninth assist of the season. Jeff Dimmen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) also assisted on the goal. Flynn scored his second of the night at the 14:52 mark when he buried a Nyquist pass just to the left of St. Lawrence goalie Kain Tisi. For Flynn, it was his fourth goal of the season and fourth point of the game. House also assisted on the goal.

St. Lawrence got on the board at the 17:14 mark of the second period when Jared Keller fired a pass from Jeff Caister past Maine goalie Scott Darling (Lemont, Ill.). Aaron Bogosian also assisted on the goal for the Saints.

Maine took a 9-1 lead at 5:16 into the third period when House notched his second goal of the game from Flynn and Nyquist. Theo Andersson (Gothenburg, Sweden) finished the scoring at 16:20 when he tipped home a Josh Van Dyk (Woodstock, Ontario) shot from the point. Kevin Swallow (Stanwood, Mich.) also assisted on the goal. It was Andersson's first collegiate goal.

Maine finished the game with a 34-23 advantage in shots. The Black Bears were an impressive 5-for-8 on the power play. St. Lawrence was 1-for-2 with the man advantage.

Darling finished with 17 saves to earn the win. He improves to 6-3-1 on the season. Dave Wilson (Caledon East, Ontario) made five saves in the third period.

Alex Petizian made six saves in 20 minutes of play. He picks up the loss and falls to 2-4-2. Kain Tisi stopped eight shots in 20 minutes of play, while Robby Moss made 10 saves in the third period.
