PROVIDENCE DEFEATED BY DARTMOUTH, 4-2

Ian O'Connor scored a goal for the Friars

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's hockey team was defeated by 20th-ranked Dartmouth, 4-2, Friday night at in a non-conference game played at Schneider Arena.

After a scoreless first period, the Big Green scored three quick goals early in the second period to take a 3-0 lead. Adam Estoclet opened the scoring just 51 seconds into the period on the power play, while Andrew Owsiak tallied his second goal of the season, also on the man advantage, to give his team a 2-0 edge at 2:26. Joe Gaudet then added to the Big Green's lead at 4:22 when he potted his first goal of the season.

The Friars cut the lead to 3-1 at 14:19 when sophomore Ian O'Connor (Londonderry, N.H.) connected on his third goal of the season. Junior John Cavanagh (Warwick, R.I.) made rush down the left wing side and slid a pass to the slot to O'Connor who fired a one timer past Dartmouth goalie Jody O'Neill. At 5:09 of the third period, PC trimmed the lead to 3-2 as freshman Robert Maloney (Eagan, Minn.) scored his first collegiate goal. Senior Pierce Norton (South Boston, Mass.) played a pass down the left wing to Maloney, who ripped a shot into the net. The Friars kept pressuring the Big Green, but were not able to score the equalizer. Dartmouth then added an empty-net goal to seal the win. O'Neill finished with 35 saves for the Big Green, while freshman Justin Gates (Cranston, R.I.) stopped 28 shots for the Friars, who outshot the Big Green, 37-32.

The Friars are back in action on Saturday, November 29 at Union in Schenectady, N.Y..
