Potacco nets two goals, Campbell, Roebothan, Blair each with two assists for UML

Colin Wilson had two goals and two assists for the Terriers.

LOWELL, Mass. - Mike Potacco (Kinnelon, N.J.) scored two goals, but Boston University's Colin Wilson (Winnipeg, Man.) had a four-point night including netting the winning goal with 15 seconds remaining in the third period as the Terriers defeated UMass Lowell, 6-4, Friday night in Hockey East action at the Tsongas Arena.

The Terriers have won two straight and improve to 6-1-0 overall, 3-1-0 in league play with the win. The River Hawks had their two game win streak snapped and fall to 3-3-0 overall and 1-1-0 against the league.

Wilson led all scorers with four points (2 goals, 2 assists) on the night. He was one of three Terriers with multiple points. Chris Higgins (Lynnfield, Mass.) had two goals and Chris Connolly (Duluth, Minn.) picked up two assists.

Potacco was one of four River Hawks to collect multiple points on the night. Scott Campbell (Navan, Ont.), Mark Roebothan (St. John's, Nfld.) and Ryan Blair (Ashburn, Va.) each had two assists.

The River Hawks opened the scoring early in the first period and led 3-1 by the 13:44 mark of the second. Maury Edwards (Rocky Rapids, Alta.), who now has nine points on five goals and four assists in seven career games against BU, opened the scoring with his second goal of the season at 5:44 of the first.

John McCarthy (Andover, Mass.) evened the score for the Terriers at 6:34 of the second before Potacco and David Vallorani (Hamilton, Ont.) made it a 3-1 game just past the midway point of the second. For Potacco it was his first of the night. For Vallorani the goal was the first of his collegiate career.

Wilson netted the first of his two goals, a power play marker just nine seconds into the man-advantage, at 18:14 of the second period to make it a 3-2 game, a lead the River Hawks carried into the third period.

Vinny Saponari (Powder Springs, Ga.) scored the equalizer 9:13 into the third before Potacco once gain gave UML the lead at 14:29.

Wilson had a hand in the final three goals of the game as BU tied the game, took its first lead, and iced the game with three late third period tallies.

Higgins scored twice, at 17:46 and 19:59 with Wilson assisting on both strikes. Wilson netted the winning goal at 19:45.

Kieran Millan (Edmonton, Alta.) made 24 saves for BU to earn the win and improve to 4-0-0 on the season. Millan stopped 10 shots in each the second and third periods.

Carter Hutton (Thunder Bay, Ont.) started his fifth game of the year for UML, but left the contest after two periods with an injury. He made 19 saves through 40 minutes and did not figure into the decision.

Freshman T.J. Massie (Lexington, Mass.) suffered the loss, the first of his career, allowing four third period goals. He stopped eight shots.

The Terriers out-shot the River Hawks 33-28 for the game, including collecting 12 shots in each the second and third periods.

BU was 1-for-3 with four shots on the power play. UML was 1-for-2 with three shots on the man-advantage.

Friday's game marked the first time this season (3-1-0) that the River Hawks have lost when scoring three or more goals. It also was the first time this year UML fell (3-1-0) when leading after the first period.

The River Hawks return to action Saturday night when they host Vermont at the Tsongas Arena. Game time is scheduled for 7:06 p.m.
