PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College (5-6-2) men's hockey team scored 1:34 into the game and tacked on five second period goals en route to an 8-0 victory over Brown (1-6-3) Tuesday night in the 22nd Mayor's Cup at Schneider Arena. It marked the largest margin of victory in the Mayor's Cup. With the win, the Friars improved to 12-8-2 in the Mayor's Cup.

Providence College (5-6-2) used the man advantage to take a 1-0 lead in the first period as junior Pierce Norton (South Boston, Mass.) scored his team leading eighth goal of the season. The Friars, who outshot the Bears 15-4 in the first period (55-18 overall), scored five times in the second to take a 6-0 lead. Freshman Kyle MacKinnon (Walnut, Calif.) scored twice in the period, including a short-handed breakaway goal at the 29-second mark. It marked his first career tally. He also added another goal at 3:41 to make the score, 3-0. Sophomore Mark Fayne (Bourne, Mass.), freshman Ian O'Connor (Londonderry, N.H.) and sophomore John Cavanagh (Warwick, R.I.) also recorded goals in the second period. For O'Connor, it marked his first career tally.

Sophomore Cody Wild (North Providence, R.I.) and senior Jon Rheault (Deering, N.H.) capped off the scoring in the third period. In net, senior Tyler Sims (Fort Wayne, Ind.) made 18 saves to earn his second consecutive shutout and the seventh of his career, which is a Providence College record.

The eight goals marked the most for the Friars since an 8-1 win over Princeton in November of 2002. The shutout win also marked the first for the Friars over the Bears since 1983 when PC also earned an 8-0 victory.
