Boston College Beats RIT 6-0 To Win Dodge Holiday Classic

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Boston College scored five times in the third period and junior forward Nathan Gerbe registered a game-high three points -- one goal and two assists -- as the 14th-ranked Eagles earned a 6-0 victory over Rochester Institute of Technology to capture the 2007 Dodge Holiday Classic Crown in Mariucci Arena.

Freshman goalie John Muse made 24 saves to his second collegiate shutout.

Nisswa, Minn., native Carl Sneep (1 goal, 1 assist) tallied his first collegiate multiple-point performance while forwards Ben Smith (1 goal, 1 assist), Joe Whitney (1 goal, 1 assist) and Benn Ferriero (2 assists) all tallied multiple points for the victors.

BC improves its record to 8-4-5 and has won each of the last five games, outscoring opponents 31-9.

Whitney opened the scoring with the only goal of the first two periods -- a power-play tally with 2:33 left in the opening period.

After a scoreless middle period, Gerbe doubled the Eagles' lead three minutes into the final frame.

Seniors Pat Gannon and Dan Bertram netted goals 56 seconds apart to increase the BC lead to four goals with less than 10 minutes remaining.

Smith scored BC's fifth goal -- his 13th of the season -- at 12:07. Sneep concluded the scoring at 19:08.

The visiting Eagles matched a season-high with 44 shots and totaled 16-8 and 19-8 advantages in the second and third periods.

RIT sophomore goalie Louis Menard made 38 saves in the losing effort.

The Tigers fall to 7-7-3 on the season.
