MERRIMACK EDGED BY HOLY CROSS, 2-1

NORTH ANDOVER, MA — James Sixsmith and Dale Reinhardt each had a goal and an assist to lead The College of Holy Cross to a 2-1 win over Merrimack College in non-conference hockey action Tuesday night at Lawler Rink.

Goaltender Ian Dams made 29 saves in net for the Crusaders, who evened their record at 2-2-0 on the season. The Warriors, who outshot Holy Cross 30-21, fell to 0-4-0 on the season.

Sixsmith opened the scoring with his second goal of the season at 15:55 of the first period. Sixsmith gathered a rebound off a shot from Reinhardt and chipped the shot past freshman goalie Andrew Braithwaite (Toronto, Ontario) to put the Crusaders in front 1-0.

The Warriors tie the game at one just as a power play expired early in the second period. Freshman J.C. Robitallie (Des Ruisseaux, Quebec) slid the puck to senior Mike Alexiou (Pickering, Ontario), who fired the puck over the right shoulder of Dams for his first goal of the season. Freshman Mike Vaskivuo (Helsinki, Finland) picked up the second assist, the first point of his career.

Reinhardt’s fifth goal of the season put the Crusaders in front 2-1 at 7:39 of the second period, firing a shot through a screen created by Sixsmith in front of Braithwaite. Marty Dams and Sixsmith picked up assists on the game-winner.

Braithwaite stopped 19 shots for the Warriors. Both teams took five minor penalties and each garnered two shots on net with the man advantage.

The Warriors return to action this Friday when they travel to Rhode Island to take on Hockey East rival Providence College. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
