Andrew Zagorianakos has been hired as Hockey East's graduate intern for the upcoming season |
Wakefield, Mass. - Hockey East Commissioner Joe Bertagna has announced that Andrew Zagorianakos, a 2011
graduate of the University of Maine, has been hired as Hockey East's graduate intern for the upcoming 2011-2012
season.
Zagorianakos will assist in day-to-day operations in both the men's and women's league in the Wakefield office, which
includes event management, marketing and media relations efforts throughout the season.
"We are thrilled to add Andrew to our staff for the coming season, his experience in Orono will make him a valuable
member of our staff." said Commissioner Joe Bertagna.
Zagorianakos, a Lincoln, Maine native, worked in the University of Maine athletic department for the last five years,
most recently as a student supervisor at Alfond Arena in operations office. His responsibilities included maintenance
of the ice surface, as one of five Zamboni drivers to make ice at Alfond. He was also in charge of the oversight of 20
student workers at the arena. In 2010-2011, Zagorianakos was nominated for the Maine Student Employee of the Year
Award for his efforts as part of the Alfond Arena operations staff.
Zagorianakos also worked in the event management office in the Maine athletic department with all varsity programs.
He assisted with the game day setup of scoreboards and instant replay equipment, along with preparing event timelines
and the scheduling of the student work staff throughout the season.
He also served as assistant equipment manager for the men's team at Maine from 2007-2009, dealing with the
day-to-day equipment needs of the Black Bears program, which included sharpening skates, equipment repair and the
inventory and ordering of new equipment.
The Hockey East graduate intern program is in its sixth year of existence, with Scott Donnelly (Providence '06), Andrew
Bartlett (Providence '07), Elizabeth Paige Fierman (BU '08), Stephanie Bambury (St. Michael's '09) and Greg Rosa
(Boston College '10) having served before Zagorianakos.
The Hockey East Association is a 10-team Division I college men's hockey conference founded in 1984 and an eightteam
Division I women's league which began play in 2002-03. The men's league has won seven NCAA championships
in the past 19 years.
